As many of you know, for the past 5 years I have been working with a school in Haiti called the Apparent Project. Through your generous donations, we have been able to deliver school supplies and purchase equipment such as desks, schoolbooks, and fans that were all desperately needed.  I have even taken laptop computers with me so that the adults can continue furthering their own education.

Haiti is in a state of turmoil right now. (More so than when I was last able to go!!) Gas prices are reaching $20 per gallon, if you can actually find any. Looting and rioting are commonplace.  People are afraid to go to work, if they still have jobs.  There are terrible gangs that are kidnapping people, and raiding the food supplies that were meant to feed the poorest of the
poor.

In the middle of all this turmoil, the Apparent Project has been able to stay open and serve the community. It has not been easy, and most of the staff has not been paid a salary for several months.

In spite of this, they still continue to work. They know that only through education can they help their country. Most of the parents are still able to work making the beautiful jewelry and crafts that I bring with me. I hope to have some for sale at St. John’s in the near future.

I wanted to share with you the tires of Haiti and what a difference the setting can make.
