Chris Delagrange 2016

Chris Delagrange

Nursery Supervisor

The Children & Family Ministry's mission is to serve God by providing faith formation for God’s children and families through a committed group of volunteers.

Nursery

Sundays from 7:45 - 11:30 a.m. (Infant through 3 years old.)

Nursery hours will be announced in advance for special services/parish activities.

Fully staffed nursery care is provided for children, infant through 3 years old, during the 8:00 and 10:00 a.m. Sunday morning’s services. Our nursery program begins the process of introducing our young children to Christ through playtime, Bible stories, and music. Simple crafts will also be introduced that will reinforce the Bible story.

Godly Play

Sundays, August through May at 9:45 a.m. (4 years old through 2nd grade.)

The curriculum used in this classroom, Godly Play, was developed by Jerome W. Berryman, an Episcopal Priest and (former) Director of the Center for the Theology of Childhood in Houston, Texas.

In Godly Play, we prepare a special environment for children to work with adult guides. Two teachers guide the session, making time for the children. The children enter the room (their sacred space) and are greeted by the Door leader.

Each child is greeted by the Story Teller leader and asked to join a circle sitting on the floor with the leader. When ready, prayers are said to begin the class.

The Story Teller presents a story of the Bible using visual aids and movements, which bring the story to life for the children. The stories presented are from the Old and New Testaments, Parables, and liturgical action. The children respond to the story presentation through shared wondering. After the wondering, the children respond to the story with their own expressive art, a provided craft, or work (play) with the lesson materials.

When they are done with response time, we prepare, pray, and share a feast.

Lastly, the children are blessed by the leader and goodbyes are said and they leave their sacred space. The children will join their families for communion after class.

Weaving God’s Promise

Sundays, August through May 9:45 a.m. (3rd grade through 6th grade.)

For this age group we are using the curriculum, Weaving God's Promises, which was developed and written exclusively for the Episcopal Church by Rev. Joanna Leiserson. It is titled Weaving God's Promises after the process of faith formation in which we learn how God's promises of salvation are completely woven into our lives.

Weaving God's Promises provides children with basic knowledge of Church teachings in the three areas important to the practice of our faith: Christian education, Worship, and Service.

The goal of Weaving God's Promises is to teach children the way of Christ, not only in the church but also in the world, and to give them a solid background for future youth formation programs and will prepare them for Christian adulthood.

The wonderful stories of the Old and New Testaments are the core of the lessons, with special attention on the life and teachings of Jesus. The children will join their families for communion after class.

Vacation Bible School

Vacation Bible School (VBS) is held for one week each June from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. A child friendly meal is served at 5:30, followed by stories from the Bible that will come to life with hands on storytelling. The children participate in crafts, games, and music. All children ages 4 years old (must be potty trained) through 12 years old are welcome.

Adult volunteers to help run VBS are welcome each year. Please contact Peggy Diaz in the spring, as there is a need to complete certification and join in the planning before the big week.
